I’ve structured it with clean markdown, bolding, and bullet points to make it highly scannable and engaging for communities like Reddit (e.g., r/sideproject, r/webdev) or Indie Hackers.

SideProject: I built Bookmarkai to fix messy YouTube playlists and text-only bookmarking

Hi everyone,

As an indie developer, I save a ton of YouTube videos for learning, tech research, and coding tutorials. However, I constantly found myself frustrated with two things:

Native YouTube playlists get messy and chaotic very quickly.

Generic bookmark managers (like Raindrop or Pocket) treat video links like plain text, completely stripping away their visual context.

To solve my own problem, I built Bookmarkai

It is a lightweight MVP that operates via a browser extension. It allows you to easily save, tag, and organize video links while fully preserving their visual previews and context so your workspace stays clean.

🔑 Note: Since it syncs your bookmarks across devices, it does require a quick account creation/login to get your unique sync key.

🛠️ How to Install & Use (Quick 2-Minute Setup)

Since the extension is currently a local developer build (not yet published on the Chrome Web Store), you can load it directly to try it out:

Download & Extract: Download the source code
.zip
file and extract it. You will get a folder named
bookmarkai-url-sync-extension-v25
(make sure it directly contains the
manifest.json
file).

Open Extensions Page: In your browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Cốc Cốc), type
chrome://extensions/
in the address bar and press Enter.

Enable Developer Mode: Toggle Developer mode to ON (usually in the top-right corner).

Load the Extension: Click the Load unpacked button and select your extracted
bookmarkai-url-sync-extension-v25
folder.

Pin & Link Your Code:

Pin the extension to your browser toolbar.

Click the extension icon, enter your unique Extension Code (format:
xxxx-123456
found in your Bookmarkai web dashboard), and click Save.

Make sure the status toggle is switched to Active.

Now, whenever you browse supported platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, or TikTok, the extension will automatically detect and sync your links. You can also click the Go to web button in the popup to jump straight to your local library!

🌍 Pricing & Indie Context

The core features are completely free and accessible to everyone worldwide. I am bootstrapping this project solo from Vietnam, so I have integrated local automated VietQR payments for premium upgrades, but the free tier is generous enough for regular daily use.

I would love to get your honest feedback on the onboarding experience, the extension workflow, and the overall UI.

What features should I add next? Would love to hear your thoughts!
